Oh you got green eyes, oh you got blue eyes

On the heels of one tribute album marking the music of my youth comes another, this one from a different genre albeit from around the same time.

A New Order tribute is due out next month which, aside from feting the dynamic sounds of the Manchester band, is also in memory of Tony Wilson, the founder of Factory Records who started the band on its way to international renown. Wilson, who died of cancer in 2007, is responsible for discovering Joy Division and Happy Mondays, as well as running The Hacienda, the dance club which was ground zero for the rise of British trip-hop in the early 90s. The excellent movie 24 Hour Party People tells his story, and features in it several people who made that history possible (including a cameo from Wilson himself).

Anyway, the tribute album features 32 songs from electronica and indie bands. Peter Hook, New Order/Joy Division bassist opens the album with an spoken word dedication to Wilson, followed by songs from band such as Rabbit in the Moon, John Ralston The Cloud Room, and The Dark Romantics.

New Order has been part of my life’s soundtrack for decades, and Temptation remains one of my favorite songs of all time. This will be an album worth listening to.
