Beef patties and special sauce, with guitars on the side

I can’t say enough how great it is to live in a place which embraces – nay revels – in any and all aspects of the music business. The good fortune to nurture superstar bands and musicians over the years has allowed Athens to become a destination for many who make sound their life. Top bands come to Athens to cut records and play shows – in the past year Arctic Monkeys and Band of Horses have eschewed larger venues to play in Athens.

So it is little wonder that a California record label, when planning a tour for its “Caravan of Stars,” decided to stop in Athens. Burger Records, a label of several dozen bands (and once the home of Harlem, a fantastic band out of Tucson, Az.) hits the Classic City on Saturday, bringing with them a host of bands to join a dollap of local bands for a day of pop-punk-indie music, and of course free burgers.

The free show includes Garbo’s Daughter, Bombón, Alrighty Do Me a Favor, Trashcans, Barreracudas, Pipsqueak, Apache, Cosmonaut, Cum Stain, The Agenda, The Humms, Vincas and Timmy Tumble. Bombon is an all-female surf punk band from San Pedro, Calif.; Cum Stain plays porno-pop (umm, OK); Garbo’s Daughter is bubblegum pop from Florida while Apache is a punk band from San Francisco.

With AthFest in the rear view mirror and PopFest on the horizon, this is a great go-between.
