You would think if you named your band Squirrelhouse, you’d have no trouble securing that URL for your Web site. But you’d be wrong.
For Squirrelhouse, a four man, one woman band out of Tuscaloosa, Ala., attempts to gain squirrelhouse.com, squirrelhouses.com or squirrelhouse.org are futile. The former boasts: “Bob’s backyard features live cameras showing pictures of squirrels and birds. Buy cool squirrel greeting cards. Learn how to build a den box from plans.”
A guy with a Web site with live cameras of squirrels. The Internet is officially too much.
As for the band, I found the name intriguing, and since they’ll be at the Go Bar next week, I thought I’d give them a listen. They have a playful element to them, and clearly bow at the alter of Sonic Youth: Nagasaki Shuffle and The Hunter seethe with that Thurston Moore guitar riff. But then there’s the song Fours, with its horns (is that a triangle?), rising choruses and busy hi-hat, it’s just all fun. And while I love Sonic Youth, fun is not the word I’d use to describe them.
So yeah, weird band name, interesting music, but SOL when it comes to securing that Web site. Here’s Fours for a listen:
